Terminal 6 connects Oregon producers with global container markets.

Oregon Container Terminal at the Port of Portland’s Terminal 6 is Oregon’s only active international container port, providing a direct maritime link between regional producers, consumers and key Asian markets.

The Port of Portland reports that Terminal 6 handles containerized imports and exports ranging from agricultural products and animal feed to lumber and manufactured goods. Its location within the Rivergate Industrial District connects marine service with interstate highways, on-dock rail and the broader Columbia–Willamette transportation network.

Why this infrastructure matters

For resource programs, port access is not simply the final handoff. Production timing, inland transportation, staging capacity, documentation, container availability and vessel schedules must be coordinated as one operating plan. A functioning international container gateway gives Oregon businesses a practical route to customers beyond North America.

Port data published in 2025 describes an average of approximately $500 million in exports moving through Terminal 6 annually, with hay and animal feed leading the 2024 export categories by volume. The same gateway supports forest products and other Northwest goods moving toward international markets.
